EMMET MULLINS landed an Irish Grand National gamble with Soldier In Milan – as uncle Willie saw his big hope suffer an agonising fall when in with a chance.
In truth, Kiss Will would have done well to chase down Soldier In Milan at Fairyhouse.
Hammered into 6-1 from 10-1, Soldier In Milan, who skipped a season over hurdles to go chasing, hosed home from 10-1 runner-up Showurappreciation.
But it looked like it was going to be a titanic tussle late on as his uncle’s No1 hope Kiss Will circled ominously.
It wasn’t to be though, because just as Paul Townend pressed go the HOS Syndicate-owned horse crumpled on landing after the third from home.
That left it free for novice Soldier In Milan to navigate his passage home safely and land the £235,000 prize.
