TESCO has issued an urgent recall for a cooked meat product, warning customers “do not eat”.

The UK Food Standards Agency (FSA) has warned the British Bresaola may be potentially carrying traces of a dangerous bacteria.

The Curing Barn is recalling the meat over contamination with Listeria monocytogenes.

This is a type of pathogenic bacteria that can cause listeriosis.

Listeriosis is a rare but potentially very serious illness.

It can cause a high temperature, muscle ache or pain, chills, sickness and diarrhoea.

In extremely rare cases, the bacteria can even lead to meningitis.

The bacterial infection is particularly dangerous for those over the age of 65, pregnant women, or individuals with a weakened immune system.

Bresaola is an aged, air-dried beef, based on an Italian delicacy.

It is currently retailed at £4.50 per packet, and can be found in supermarkets like Tesco.

The potentially harmful product that is being recalled will have a use by date of June 10 2026.

It also has the product code ‘WLRC J1Z2 0WD0 J85J’ and is labelled as 60g.

All points of sale will display a recall notice, urging customers to return the goods to the store for a full refund.

The FSA said: “If you have bought the above product, do not eat it. Instead, return it to where you bought it from for a full refund.”
