
A 57-YEAR-old motorcyclist has died after colliding with a van in a horror smash on a busy A-road.
The fatal smash closed the A1 in Muskham, Notinghamshire for more than 11 hours.
Emergency services were scrambled to the scene at around 9pm last night.
First responders provided first aid to a man on the roadside – battling to save his life.
Sadly, despite the best efforts of medics, the 57-year-old motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene.
His family have been informed of the tragedy and are being supported by specialist officers.
The driver of the van involved in the collision stopped at the site of the deadly smash and co-operated with investigators.
They offered an initial account of what happened to responding police officers.
In the wake of the deadly smash, cops closed the road in both directions overnight.
Investigations took place before the road was fully reopened at 10.40am this morning.
Detective Sergeant Paul Clark, of Nottinghamshire Police’s serious collision investigation unit, said: “The man’s family will be supported by specialist officers following this tragic incident and our thoughts are with them.
“They have asked for privacy at what must be an extremely difficult time.
“We’d still like to hear from anyone with any relevant dashcam footage of the incident who has not yet spoken to an officer, or anyone who may have witnessed the incident.”
The collision happened between the A17 for the Newark Showground/Air Museum turn off and the B6325 Great North Road for North Muskham.
