AN ICONIC department store has announced it’s shutting down for good after serving customers for over 140 years.
House of Fraser in Birmingham is to close down in just weeks, and has launched a huge clearance sale with prices slashed on all stock.

Staff at the West Midlands store were informed this week that the branch would close in June, although an exact date has yet to be confirmed.
It is unclear how the closure will impact jobs at the business.
Signs have been placed in the store windows advertising 20% off everything as the business prepares to shut.
The iconic building currently home to Birmingham’s House of Fraser first opened its doors to customers back in the 1880s, as Rackhams department store.
It was revealed last year that Rackhams would be returning to the UK after 25 years as an online-only shop.
House of Fraser fell into administration in 2018 but was later saved by business tycoon Mike Ashley, who also owns Sports Direct.
Several branches of the once thriving department store have already closed this year, with just a few now left around the country.
Its Darlington and Plymouth branches both shut their doors for good last month.
Shoppers were seen queuing outside the Darlington store during its final weekend as they tried to nab some final bargains.
Frasers Group was contacted by The Sun for comment.
