Southampton vs Arsenal preview
The quadruple may be gone following their Carabao Cup final defeat to Manchester City, but a treble is still on the cards for Arsenal as they visit St Mary’s tonight.
The Gunners sit top of the Premier League with a nine-point cushion, have a favourable draw in the Champions League and are just three wins away from lifting the FA Cup at Wembley.
Arsenal are the competition’s most successful side in history, having lifted the trophy 14 times, but they have not made a habit of going deep in recent years.
Arsenal have reached the FA Cup quarter-finals for just the second time in the last nine seasons, last winning the competition in 2019-20 under Mikel Arteta, and are now looking to reach their first semi-final since that triumph.
And they should.
Aside from that defeat to City, Arsenal are unbeaten in their last 14 matches, winning 11 of those with seven clean sheets and scoring 32 goals.
This is also a fixture they have enjoyed in recent years, winning both Premier League meetings last season and losing just once in the last seven encounters.
But could injuries become a factor? No fewer than TEN Arsenal players withdrew from international duty over the last week – leaving Arteta either with a mounting injury headache or something a little more strategic at play.
As for Southampton, they have conquered Doncaster, Leicester and Premier League Fulham to reach this stage and are showing their best form of the season under Tonda Eckert.
Southampton, who have not won the FA Cup since the 1975-76 season, have won 11 of their last 14 in all competitions and arrive on the back of three straight Championship victories that have propelled them into the play-off places.
This is not unfamiliar territory either. Southampton are featuring in their fourth FA Cup quarter-final in the last nine seasons and are aiming to reach the semi-finals for the third time in that period.

It has been the Gabriel Martinelli show in the FA Cup for Arsenal this season, so we are backing him to score or assist at 10/11 with bet365.
