BBC sacked Scott Mills ‘after learning teen in police sex offences probe was aged under 16’

The BBC sacked Scott Mills after learning the alleged teen victim in the police probe was under 16, according to reports.

The Radio 2 host was axed this week after “new information” came to light, the broadcaster said.

Chiefs only became aware of the age of the alleged victim in recent weeks and took action, BBC News reports.

But it is not clear if management at the time of the Met Police investigation in 2017 knew the age.

The broadcaster admitted today it knew about the investigation into the Radio 2 host for nine years – but let him keep his job until this week.

It was only after a complaint was made regarding the police probe that Beeb bosses gave Mills the boot.

Mills’ £360,000 a year contract was terminated within five days of the complaint being made.

Speaking out for the first time since his sacking, Mills said he had “fully cooperated” with police when questioned in 2018.

The ex-face of the flagship Breakfast show said he has been subject to “rumour and speculation” since the BBC announced his axing.

The former Radio 2 host confirmed evidence was submitted to the Crown Prosecution Service, but the threshold to bring charges was not met.

Mills added that the allegation dated back nearly three decades and the police probe had been fully closed seven years ago.
