WATER bills are rising this month for households across the country.
But if you’re on a meter you will only pay for what you use and there are small changes you can make to bring down usage.
Here are ways to do it . . .
SHOWER POWER: It’s easy to while away more time in the shower than you realise so try to stick to a time limit of around four minutes.
Don’t leave the taps running while brushing your teeth — according to Ofwat this wastes up to nine litres a minute.
Think about ways you can use old bathwater such as for cleaning, rather than running the tap again.

If you’re upgrading your bathroom, install water-efficient taps, showerheads or toilets.
These will limit the flow of water, helping to trim bills. Find a selection at uk.getwatersmart.com.
Free gadgets to help save cash, such as shower regulators or money off water butts, may be available from your water company.
Simply type in your postcode at savewatersavemoney.co.uk to see what is available in your area.
LEAK LESS: Water dripping from taps, showers and toilets is money trickling down the drain.
It’s usually a quick fix to stop leaky taps and you don’t need a plumber.
Wickes has step-by-step guides to help you identify whether you need to replace the washer or o-ring, then the steps you need to take to make the change. And there are “how to” videos on YouTube.
KITCHEN WINNER: Eco modes on dishwashers and washing machines save on both water and energy.
In most cases, these settings do the job effectively so there’s no need for more energy-intensive settings.
And always wait until the appliances are full rather than running half loads.
Wash fruit and vegetables in a bowl of water rather than under a running tap. Then, repurpose the water where possible — such as using it to water plants.
You can also reuse water that you’ve boiled veggies in to make soup or gravy.
