OVER the years, Bobbi Brown has become one of the biggest beauty moguls in the world – and a name well-known any beauty fanatic.
The American professional makeup artist and author is also the founder of both beauty brands Bobbi Brown Cosmetics and Jones Road.

The 68-year-old, who will celebrate her birthday in April, is certainly one of the most trusted voices in the industry – and now she has shared seven common eye make-up mistakes that can age you in an instant.
And according to the pro, there is also a rule to be aware of if you wear glasses.
Applying eye cream at the wrong time
Incorporating eye cream into your skincare routine as you get older is a good idea as far as the make-up whizz and writer is concerned, as it’s going to hydrate the area around your eyes.
However, it’s not as simple as that – according to Bobbi, you want to avoid applying the product at the wrong time.
Overnight is good, but the mother-of-three advises that you “skip eye cream on your lids during the day. Too much moisture in that area can make your eye make-up move and not last”.
Focusing on the eyelids not the under-eye
There is also a mistake you may wish to avoid if you wear specs, warned Bobbi, as per Daily Mail.
“If you wear glasses, the glass in your frames can highlight under-eye discoloration and darkness, so corrector and concealer underneath the eye is essential,’’ she said.
To help lighten any darkness, the guru advised to opt for a skin-tone correct formula that’s a shade or two lighter than your favourite foundation.
Forgetting to prep the lids
Does your eye make-up tend to crease or move about soon after you apply it?
If that is the case, the mogul’s 30-second tip could change the game – and it’s all thanks to your go-to face powder.
According to the pro, beauty buffs should start by prepping the lid with a tiny bit of tinted face powder in your shade. Then, apply the product with a soft-blending brush for the best results.
Using only powder eyeshadows
As you age and the skin gets drier, newer formulas – such as creamy products – could be more preferable.
According to the 68-year-old, creamy eyeshadow sticks may be appealing if you have more mature eyelids, as compared to the traditional powder formula “they feel more forgiving”.
Not adding definition
As you grow older, the pigment in your brows and lashes can slowly disappear and become paler, which makes adding extra oomph with make-up even more important.
To define the eyes, the guru recommends finishing with an eyeliner and around two to three coats of mascara – this will help the eyes pop, giving them a refreshed look.
If you have hooded eyes, the pro advises to “bring a deeper shade slightly above the lid to create definition”.
Neglecting the brows
Are your brows looking a little droopier with age? Bobbi’s trick will fix that in seconds.
Simply apply a lighter shade, such as a cream shadow stick, right on the brow bone to brighten and lift the area.
As your brows frame the face, it’s essential you don’t neglect them. If needed, you can also use a brow pencil or a gel to fill them in and style accordingly.
Playing it too safe
But with all that being said, remember to have a little fun with your make-up – after all, that’s the most important thing.
For instance, the mogul is a huge fan of shimmer and sparkle – and according to her, a little glitter layered over your eyeshadow looks fabulous at any age.
3 tips to age backwards
You can’t really get younger but you can try your best to look younger.
Use sun protection
The most common cause of an ageing face is sun exposure and sun damage.
Using SPF daily is the most effective way to keep the skin looking young and care for ageing skin.
Ditch dramatic makeup
Opt for brown eyeliners and mascaras instead of black, swap matte bronzers, blushers and face powders for creamy products, and make your face glow with shimmery bronzes, pinks and gold eyeshadows.
Dress for your body shape
Many women tend to hide behind baggy, shapeless clothes as they get older.
But the secret to looking young and trendy, is to embrace the body shape you have.
Midi skirts are all the rage at the moment, offering suitable coverage for anyone who doesn’t want to show too much leg or knee. And pleated midi skirts are great if you’re looking for a versatile day to night piece.
Blazers never go out of fashion, and can instantly elevate any outfit. Just make sure the blazer length hits you at the right point.
Jeans have had a revival and there are so many different styles on the high street for you to try. If in doubt, opt for a mid-blue colour and a trusty black.
