Excruciating moment Kate Garraway is grilled about Phillip Schofield by BBC hosts – as viewers jeer ‘this is one of the best questions anyone has ever asked her!’

Kate Garraway looked uncomfortable as she was asked about Phillip Schofield during a comedy-sketch interview with two BBC stars.

The Good Morning Britain presenter joined Lucia Keskin and Jamie Bisping as their characters Chi and Lucas for their new celebrity show, What Have You Done?

The format sees the duo, who star together in Things You Should Have Done, quiz famous faces on everything from their biggest regrets to their wildest dreams.

Kate, 58, joined the pair on a pedal boat in the first episode and talk soon turned to her ITV daytime co-stars past and present, including Phillip, 63.

Characters Chi and Lucas first asked the presenter if she was friends with GMB co-star Susanna Reid and This Morning’s Ben Shephard before turning their attention to the former ITV daytime co-host.

Schofield stepped down from his position on This Morning back in 2023 following an ‘unwise but not illegal’ affair with a younger employee who worked on the show.

She was asked by Lucia, 25, as Chi about whether she had ‘shared’ a vape with her former ITV co-star: ‘Have you ever shared a Lost Mary with Phillip Schofield?’

Looking uncomfortable and shifting in her seat, Kate replied: ‘No, I haven’t,’ prompting Lucas and Chi to chime in: ‘We have once. It was completely accidental.’

Quizzing the duo on how the event happened, Lucas continued: ‘He left it. We pick it up. We’re having a puff or two. He comes back and he’s like “That’s my Lost Mary”. Anyway, three drinks later and we’re all laughing about it.’

Chi then chimed in, leaving Kate in an awkward silence and pulling a series of uncomfortable facial expressions: ‘Then he gets fired from This. Morning.’

Fans were stunned by the line of questioning on the programme, and took to X, formerly Twitter, to praise it was ‘one of the best questions’ they could have asked.

One fan wrote: ‘Love how she tried to hold it together,’ as a second chimed in to agree: ‘One of the best questions anybody has ever asked.’

Another chimed in of the show’s first celebrity guest: ‘Never in my wildest dreams did I expect the camera to turn around and Kate Garraway to be sat there.’

Phillip, 63, who came out as gay in February 2020, stepped back from the spotlight after departing This Morning in 2023 in the wake of an affair with a 20-year-old runner, which he branded ‘unwise but not illegal’.

Phillip’s friendship with former co-star Holly Willoughby fell apart after his affair came to light and later things broke down irretrievably after she discovered what his brother had told him about engaging in a sex act with a boy, Daily Mail revealed in 2024.

The extent of the former This Morning presenters’ bitter feud was exposed when Phil made his TV comeback in Channel 5 series Cast Away in October, in which he referred to Holly as ‘one of the three s***s of showbiz’.

The disgraced host accused Holly of ‘betrayal’ after suggesting she helped to orchestrate his departure from the ITV show.

Holly had previously vented her frustration at Phillip’s lies when he tried to deny he was having an affair with the showrunner, before eventually coming clean by releasing a bombshell statement to the Daily Mail in May 2023.

He said: ‘I am making this statement via the Daily Mail, to whom I have already apologised personally for misleading, through my lawyer who I also misled, about a story [sic] which they wanted to write about me a few days ago.

‘The first thing I want to say is: I am deeply sorry for having lied to them, and to many others about a relationship that I had with someone working on This Morning. I did have a consensual on-off relationship with a younger male colleague at This Morning.

‘Contrary to speculation, whilst I met the man when he was a teenager and was asked to help him to get into television, it was only after he started to work on the show that it became more than a just a friendship.

‘That relationship was unwise, but not illegal. It is now over…

‘I am painfully conscious that I have lied to my employers at ITV, to my colleagues and friends, to my agents, to the media and therefore the public and most importantly of all to my family. I am so very, very sorry, as I am for having been unfaithful to my wife…

‘I am resigning from ITV with immediate effect, expressing my immense gratitude to them for all the amazing opportunities that they have given me.

‘I will reflect on my very bad judgement in both participating in the relationship and then lying about it.’

Phillip insisted he had not ‘groomed’ his young lover, despite first meeting him when he was 15.

He said: ‘Attraction is attraction. It’s no different in the gay world as it is in the heterosexual world or in the lesbian world.

‘There shouldn’t be a difference. This is where homophobia comes in. We did first meet when he was 15, I visited the drama school [he attended].’

He said the fallout from his admission that he lied about his affair with a younger male colleague had been ‘relentless’, revealing he has had suicidal thoughts.

Schofield said: ‘My girls saved my life. They said last week they haven’t left me for a moment. They’ve been by my side every moment because they’re scared to let me out of their sight. What is that like for daughters to have to go with something like that?

‘And they said to me, “Don’t you dare do this on our watch. We’re supposed to be looking after you.” If my girls hadn’t been there, I wouldn’t be here, because I don’t see my future.’
