Harry and Meghan set to produce polo-themed TV drama for Netflix about rival families at war in latest ‘passion project’

PRINCE Harry and Meghan Markle are lining up a polo-themed TV drama about feuding families for their latest Netflix project.

The streaming giant is exploring a fresh collaboration with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s Archewell Productions on a scripted series centred on the sport.

It follows their work together on the 2024 docuseries Polo, with the new show shifting focus to a fictional drama set in the high-society polo world.

The series is being produced by Archewell alongside Fake Empire, the company founded by Gossip Girl creators Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage.

The drama is understood to centre on a bitter rivalry between two teams in the wealthy “horse town” of Wellington, Florida.

It has been written by Warrior and Monarch writer Francisca X. Hu.

Harry and Meghan themselves will serve as executive producers, reports The Times.

Hu, known for her work on Dynasty, is also expected to executive produce alongside the Sussexes.

But viewers were left unimpressed by Harry and Meg’s previous Netflix effort Polo.

The couple’s last polo-themed project did not blow ratings out of the water when it was first released as it ranked just 3,442 out of around 7,000 titles.

According to Netflix’s engagement reports for the second half of 2024 and first half of 2025, it earned just 1.1 million views and 4.5 million hours viewed during that period.

Despite that, Harry and Meghan are returning to the subject with the new drama, set once again in Wellington – known as the winter equestrian capital of the world.

Harry and Meghan also have other projects in the works, including a film adaptation of the romance novel Meet Me at the Lake by Carley Fortune.

It comes months after Netflix axed her lifestyle show With Love, Meghan after two series and amid scathing reviews.

Across eight 33-minute episodes the mum-of-two made cringe jokes, shared recipes with pals, learned from celeb chefs, and crafted handmade gifts.

But harsh viewers left scathing criticism – and the second season didn’t fare much better.

The second season of With Love, Meghan didn’t land in the streamer’s Top 10 shows in the US the week it dropped, as reported by Forbes.

However, Harry and Meghan still have a “first-look” deal with the streaming giants with projects in the pipeline.

The polo drama is understood to be part of that agreement.

And a spokesperson for the Sussexes previously added that With Love, Meghan will continue as seasonal specials.

The final nail in the coffin came earlier this month when Netflix announced they had pulled out of Meghan’s lifestyle venture.

The As Ever split was mutual and the former working royal remains “on good terms” with Netflix supremo Ted Sarandos, it is said.

The announcement comes ahead of the couple’s planned visit to Australia next month, where Meghan has trademarked her As Ever brand.

However, a petition urging the Australian government not to spend public money on the visit has racked up more than 30,000 signatures on Change.org.

Campaign group Beyond Australia said: “The activities are private and commercial and must be treated strictly as a private visit.”
