Inter Milan ‘closing in on shock £17m swoop for Tottenham No1 Vicario’

GUGLIELMO VICARIO is on the verge of a £17million summer switch from Tottenham Hotspur to Italian side Inter Milan.

Spurs are likely to go through a reset in the goalkeeping department with their humiliated back-up Antonin Kinsky also wanting a swift exit.

Nerazzurri sporting director Piero Ausilio was spotted in London meeting with Vicario’s agent Valerio Giufridda on Wednesday.

Inter are confident of agreeing a £17m fee, about the same amount Spurs paid to sign the Italian custodian from Empoli in the summer of 2023.

Vicario missed three months for Tottenham last season after sustaining a broken ankle in a 4-0 win over Manchester City where he played through the pain.

He has two more years left on his contract but has gradually declined and fallen out of favour in North London for making repeated mistakes.

Vicario was dropped by manager Igor Tudor ahead of Spurs’ Champions League first leg last-16 tie against Atletico Madrid for being error-prone in possession.

It was a decision that turned out horribly wrong, as Kinsky was substituted after just 17 minutes for making a slew of errors while conceding three goals.

Atletico won the match 5-2 and progressed into the quarter-finals 7-5 on aggregate.

Kinsky, 23, is set to leave on loan in the summer to banish his demons and rebuild his reputation after his forgettable Champions League night in Madrid.

Spurs will prioritise signing a new goalkeeper in the summer, but how much they can spend will depend on their Premier League status for next season.

With eight games to play, Spurs are only one point above the relegation zone and are under serious threat of playing Championship football for the first time since 1977.
