BUFFY the Vampire Slayer star Nicholas Brendon recalled his iconic role as he read comments from fans in a heartwarming final video.
Brendon died of “natural causes” in his sleep, aged 54, his family said.
His touching last video was posted around a year before his death and is a recording of an Instagram live captioned: “Candle time with Nicky.”
Brendon answers questions and reads out comments from loving fans.
One commenter told the actor that he “‘still looks good”, while another said: “You are iconic. We love you, Nick. I crush on you for years.”
Another fan simply said: “I love listening to you”
Brendon replied: “Well that’s a nice one, that’s actually a really sweet thing to say. Wow – Thank you.”
The touching post shows Brendon sat back, showing off his fire and a candle for a cosy chat with his friends and fans.
At one point the star is asked if he ever watched Buffy the Vampire Slayer, the show that rocketed him to fame in the 90s.
The actor was known for playing Buffy’s much-loved companion Xander Harris on the hit show and for later appearing in Criminal Minds.
He replied: “I have watched every single episode of Buffy.”
But when another fan asked how well he knew the show after all these years, the actor admitted that he “couldn’t tell you one thing about the mythology”, despite being in every episode.
Brendon added: “I was just there to do my jokes you know.
“If I were to do a Buffy trivia with a Buffy fan, I would lose hands down.
“I know this because it happened.”
One fan told the actor: “Buffy helped me a lot.
“I have cystic fibrosis and lupus, Buffy helped me.
He seemed touched by the heartfelt comment, saying: “It doesn’t make make me happy that you have those things. It makes me happy that I was there to help because those things suck.”
“This is a testament to the profound power and legacy.
“You know what it’s it’s got staying power.”
Brendon called the show “timeless”.
The star chatted about music and his art, explaining: “Oh by the way I paint, I’ve been painting all day.”
“So that’s why I’ve got black on my face.”
He remembered his character from the the hit 90s show fondly – one fan said: “I’m sure Xander is still your favourite”, and he simply replied: “Number one”.
