Wounded Chelsea head to Merseyside for Saturday’s Premier League clash with Everton.
It’s been a tough week for Liam Rosenior’s side, who crashed out of the Champions League 8-2 on aggregate after two convincing defeats to French heavyweights Paris Saint-Germain.
They also suffered a tame 1-0 home loss to Newcastle between those heavy defeats, meaning the Londoners have now lost three on the spin.
Chelsea have slipped to sixth in the Premier League, three points off fourth-placed Aston Villa, and face a real battle to avoid Thursday night football next season – with the FA Cup now their only shot at silverware.
But turning things around won’t be straightforward. Chelsea have won just one of their last eight visits to Everton and have struggled defensively on the road, keeping just one clean sheet in their last 15 away games.
That said, after a 2-0 win in December, Chelsea are chasing a first league double over Everton since 2016-17 – while the Toffees have failed to score in 12 of their last 19 Premier League meetings with the Blues.
Speaking of the hosts, Everton are aiming to win back-to-back Premier League games at the Hill Dickinson Stadium for the first time following their 2-0 victory over Burnley.
David Moyes’ side impressed despite a 2-0 defeat at Arsenal last weekend and could move to within two points of Chelsea in sixth with a win on Saturday.
