Netflix, Spotify and the Royal Family

HARRY and Meghan are difficult and keep falling out with people, experts have said.

From the Royal Family to Spotify and Netflix, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex reportedly have a tendency to rub others up the wrong way.

Speaking on The Sun’s Royal Exclusive, royal expert Bronte Coy was posed the question: “why does it always end like this?”

Bronte said on the show that “people are basically saying that they’re really difficult to work with”.

“And that’s the theme there, and it’s from a number of sources now, a number of different outlets and that is the problem with them moving forward, trying to build an empire post-royal life,” he said.

It comes after The Sun reported earlier this week that Netflix are allegedly fed up with the Sussexes who are desperately scrambling to keep their Hollywood dream alive.

Bosses have reportedly lost faith in the former royals and said poor communication and cratered ratings haven’t helped.

Inside sources at Netflix alleged to Variety that the relationship between the couple’s Archewell Productions and the streaming giant was strained.

“The mood in the building is ‘We’re done,’” one insider said.

And the Sussexes are yet to produce a single scripted project with the streaming giant, reportedly leaving Netflix chief Ted Sarandos exhausted by the duo.

In 2023, the couple’s deal with Spotify to produce podcasts ended after they agreed to “mutually part ways” after Meghan’s Archetypes series ran for 12 episodes.

Bronte continued: “They went to America with dreams of being TV producers and all they’ve really been able to do is try to monetise their lives through factual content.”

He said that “factual content is having a torrid time” at the moment and “drama is what’s still alive.

“They’ve not been able to land those dramas and it does feel like the reason is because they actually didn’t have any of their own really fantastic ideas for fiction shows,” Bronte added.

“What Meghan’s always leaned towards is monetising her life which I think is probably an exhausting thing to do because you need to be able to go home and live your life and for that to be separate.”

It comes months after Netflix axed her lifestyle show With Love, Meghan after two series and amid scathing reviews.

Across eight 33-minute episodes the mum-of-two made cringe jokes, shared recipes with pals, learned from celeb chefs, and crafted handmade gifts.

But harsh viewers left scathing criticism – and the second season didn’t fare much better.

A spokesperson for the Sussexes said With Love, Meghan will continue as seasonal specials.

Netflix later announced they had pulled out of Meghan’s lifestyle venture, As Ever.

The $350bn streaming giant became a partner and invested in As ever when it was launched 12 months ago to sell the likes of jam, rose wine and flower sprinkles.

But insiders say Montecito-based Meghan, 44, is relieved to be able to “go it alone” after fearing As ever was being “held back” by “cautious” Netflix.

The As ever split was mutual and the former working royal remains “on good terms” with Netflix supremo Ted Sarandos, it was said.

Netflix provided backroom staff and development teams when As ever was unveiled in March 2025 – which are now being organised by Meghan.

Unveiling As ever last year Meghan said: “Then Netflix came on, not just as my partner in the show, but as my partner in my business, which was huge.”

Archewell reported selling out its inventory but an apparent glitch in the company’s website revealed $21.8 million worth of product was unsold in January, as reported by Newsweek.

And Netflix was left sitting on a surplus of tea and baking products totalling more than $10million, Variety reported.

Harry and Meghan still have a ‘first-look’ deal with the streaming giants with projects in the pipeline after their $100million contract ran out last year.
