Josh Rock sends clear message to crowd after jeers as he closes in on unwanted Premier League Darts history

POINTLESS Josh Rock remains winless in his debut Premier League campaign – as he was jeered by delighted Irishmen in Dublin.

And the luckless Northern Ireland thrower is on course for the WORST start to a Prem tournament.

Rock, 24, was smashed 6-0 by Gerwyn Price in their quarter-final at the 3Arena in the Irish capital – the second whitewash seen in this year’s tournament.

Whenever the Antrim Ace missed a treble or double, lots of punters celebrated and they sang loudly when Welshman Price, 41, found his target.

It is Rock’s SEVENTH loss in a row and he is rock bottom of the eight-man Prem.

Stephen Bunting, 40, lost eight in a row from the opening day 12 months ago but should Rock lose to table topper Jonny Clayton next week in Berlin, he will equal that unwanted barren streak.

World No7 Rock clearly hates Thursday nights and he cannot catch a break right now – nor were the fans willing to give him an easy ride.

He looked affected by the lack of crowd support and averaged only 84.2 as the Iceman put 103.66 on the board across six legs.

As he walked off he gave a sarcastic thumbs up to the arena but given the circumstances it was a far restrained response.

There were only seven men, not eight, involved in the proceedings because Gian van Veen had withdrawn from the event after being diagnosed with kidney stones.

Holland’s World Championship runner-up was unable to travel to Ireland, having been hospitalised in his homeland since Wednesday.

Internal pain began last Sunday when he was appearing at the European Darts Trophy and he decided to seek out medical attention.

Michael van Gerwen, 36, was handed a bye and two points for advancing to the semi-finals at the 3Arena.

Van Veen, 23, said: “To the fans in Dublin and Ireland, I am truly sorry.

“You are one of the crowds I look forward to the most and it genuinely hurts to miss this one. I hope we get another chance soon, because I will definitely be there.”

Luke Littler beat Price in a dramatic final to win Night 7, having trailed 5-0.

He also won an entertaining semi-final spectacle against Michael van Gerwen to move up the Premier League leaderboard.
