LONGER days and better weather mean we can make more use of outdoor space if we are lucky enough to have it.
Entertaining in the garden can save on socialising down the pub or in restaurants.
But first of all, get your area guest-ready after winter with a few budget moves . . .
FRESH FURNITURE: Seating and tables left out in rain and cold temperatures can look a bit worse for wear by the time spring approaches.
Rather than buy new, freshen them up with a lick of paint.
If you have wooden chairs or tables, use wood filler to sort out any areas where rot may have set in over winter.

PERFECT PATIO: It’s easy to give a patio a quick makeover.
First, brush away dirt and moss and pull out weeds. A jet wash will shift tough grime.
Or sprinkle with bicarbonate of soda and leave for a few minutes then scrub off with warm, soapy water.
If you want to make some extra effort you can buy a two-pack of patio stencils, £8.50, from Dunelm, and paint designs to mimic expensive tiling.
The effect is fantastic but you will need to apply a primer and sealing coat to the area, so it’s not that quick a job.
FINISHING TOUCHES: Take your outside space up a notch with some outdoor solar lights, which will look pretty after the sun sets.
If you have kids, clear away outdoor toys and other clutter, into a shed. Or invest in some other outdoor storage. Lidl this week has garden boxes for £29.99.
If you are overlooked by neighbours or need more privacy, set up a wooden trellis, now £4.99 in Lidl. Then invest in climbing plants such as ivy or clematis.
A patterned shower curtain is another way to cover up less desirable views, such as eyesore walls.
You find a whole host of pretty views printed on shower curtains on Amazon including waterfalls, lakes and stunning gardens, priced from around £10.
