A UK indie star has revealed she is now teaching at a London university – 20 years after chart hits with an iconic band.
Charlotte Hatherley is a singer, songwriter and guitarist who joined the Northern Irish band Ash when she was just 17.
Charlotte was a guitarist and backing singer with the alternative rock band until she left in 2006.
But now the star can add university lecturer to her C.V. as she shared a snap of her students at work on her Instagram page.
She wrote alongside it: “I am in the most fortunate position of running the BA Creative Music Production programme at London’s ICMP.
“A weekly highlight is spending time with the 3rd year cohort, a vastly talented and switched on bunch.
“This week we explored constraint based composition using a variety of tools including Push 3, Korg MS-20 mini and my trusty Oberheim OB-6.”
She continued: “Also this week, BACMP tutor Dr Lulu Le Vay (best name) invited legendary writer/journalist and artist Jerry Thackray – AKA Everett True – to host guest sessions themed around sub cultures and the connecting thread between Punk, Grunge and UK Grime.
“Jerry entertained us with many stories, including the time when he rolled Kurt Cobain onstage in a wheelchair at the 1992 Reading Festival. Legggggend!”
Ash have had a number of hits during their career, including Shining Light, Burn Baby Burn and Goldfinger.
Since leaving the band, Charlotte has also worked as a solo artist as well as a touring musician for artists including Bryan Ferry, KT Tunstall and Bat for Lashes.
Meanwhile Ash has continued as a trio with bandmates Tim Wheeler, Mark Hamilton and Rick McMurray.
