So what happens when you live in a country where people take potshots at you every other day or so?
Well, unless something like October 7th happens, or Islamists blow themselves up, you get pretty used to dealing with the peril and get on with your life.
Hamas and Hezbollah have been lobbing rockets at Israelis for years, and Iran is attacking with missiles and drones, sending people into bomb shelters when the warning sirens or texts tell them to.
Despite the relative danger—even Iron Dome can’t catch EVERY missile, rocket, or drone—Israelis have a sense of humor about the dangers of daily life in the middle of a war.

Genius. Google reviews for bomb shelters.
They aren’t just keeping calm and carrying on. They are embracing the suck, as they say in the military. In fact, most of the people in those bomb shelters have been in the military at some point, so they know all about it.
Of course some genius Israelis invented an app where you can scan a barcode and see who’s single in the shelter 😂 pic.twitter.com/Z5fUEk1CDI

Being a Jewish state, Israel has the highest birth rate in the OECD, and surely the Jewish moms are thrilled that their singles are looking for love in marriage as they wait out the missiles.
Why waste time? Is he a doctor? Is she a lawyer? Or, perhaps, a scientist or tech guy?

I remember my Jewish grandmother asking when she would have great-grandkids.

If Great Britain was famous for keeping calm and carrying on, Israelis are showing that exuberance in the face of danger is part of living in their tiny, embattled state. They have carved a near-paradise out of what was once a barren desert, and they are determined to keep building and living life with joy.

Of course, what choice do they have? They can either live their lives with gusto or they can give in. And if the history of the modern state of Israel demonstrates anything, it is that Israelis don’t give in.
Israeli innovation at its finest:
We’re spending a lot of time in the bomb shelters here in Israel, so someone set up a massage table, and someone else even built a dating app that lets you see who’s single in your shelter pic.twitter.com/J75vte5QqJ

Despite decades of threats, wars, terrorism, and rocket attacks, Israel has become an economic powerhouse, and the moderate Arab states have looked on with envy, wanting to do business, not make war.
It’s the radical Islamists who have made that impossible. We can hope that the systematic destruction of Hamas, Hezbollah, and the Iranian regime will get us closer to that future.
