‘Coming for his job’ – Arsenal undone by their own secret weapon as set-piece coach has ‘spell used against him’

ARSENAL had a taste of their own medicine during the draw with Bayer Leverkusen.

The Gunners were held to a 1-1 draw at the BayArena in the first leg of the Champions League round of 16 tie.

The Bundesliga outfit grabbed the lead early in the second half as Robert Andrich headed in Alejandro Grimaldo‘s corner at the back post.

The German midfielder was unmarked as he scored with Ibrahim Maza acting as a blocker to Eberechi Eze.

Arsenal will have been fuming at the goal, considering their strength from set-pieces this season.

The Premier League leaders have scored 21 times this season from dead-ball situations but they have also been vulnerable to them.

And that was exploited yet again by Leverkusen and the manager Kasper Hjulmand was keen to point that out.

He was seen going over to Arsenal set-piece coach Nicolas Jover after Andrich’s goal.

Fans found the moment hilarious as they reacted to it on social media.

One posted: “He just told him that he is coming for his job.”

A second commented: “He was like ‘I used your spell against you’.”

A third wrote: “He just told him that he is coming for his job.”

A fourth said: “Hjulmand really went over to ask Jover if that goal triggered his bonus clause too.”

Another added: “They used Arsenal’s weapon against them.”

The Gunners were able to avoid defeat in Germany as Kai Havertz converted a late penalty to level the tie.

The spot-kick was awarded after Malik Tillman’s challenge on Noni Madueke appeared to have had very minimal contact.

Hjulmand was left seething at the decision as he believed that it cost his side the lead heading into the second leg.

Speaking after the game, he said: “There’s no contact and then he goes down.

“It’s not a penalty.

“That’s a situation where if the referee doesn’t blow his whistle and VAR checks it, then there’s no penalty.”

The second-leg will take place on March 17 at the Emirates with a spot in the quarter-finals up for grabs.
