YOU ought to deep-clean your oven at least once every three months, it is advised.
So if you haven’t tackled yours since Christmas, now is the time.
But cleaning products can be pricey so try these home hacks to make your oven sparkle . . .
GREASE BUSTER: Pick up a tub of Elbow Grease bicarbonate of soda at Asda for £1.75 and make a paste of one part soda to one part water.
Take a little on a cloth and spread it all over the inside of your cold oven, avoiding the heating elements and leave it for a few hours or overnight if you can so it can really work its magic on the grease.
Then spray with a mixture of white vinegar and warm water and watch it foam.
Wipe away with a damp cloth, and that greasy oven dirt should come right off.
STEAM CLEAN: One way to cut through oven grease it to steam clean, and there’s a way to do it with a fresh citrus scent.
Slice a few lemons and add them to a heatproof dish or deep baking tray.
Fill the tray with hot water from the kettle and pop it in a cool oven. Then turn the heat up to around 200C for 30 minutes.
The steam loosens the grime, while the lemon cuts through grease and leaves everything smelling fresh.
Vinegar also works in the same way but the lemon will give your home a much nicer scent.
TABLET TRICK: For really tough burnt food, you can use a dishwasher tablet as a mini scourer.
Run the tablet under water, then gently buff it on those tricky, sticky patches.
The ingredients in dishwasher tablets are designed to break down food residue and it works so well on oven doors and trays.
Go gently and wipe up the residue as you go.
SALT SCRUB: You can use salt as an exfoliater, to break down baked-on food spills.
Sprinkle coarse salt onto the stain, then add a little hot water to a cloth and rub it onto the worst areas.
Leave for 20 minutes and then go again.
The salt is a gentle abrasive and should lift burnt-on bits off without scratching.
