MISERABLE Spurs fan Mark Howarth tried to cheer himself up with a rugby trip to Rome — only to see a shock England defeat.
The season ticket-holder, whose side have not won a Premier League game this year, desperately wanted to see a victory.
So the 69-year-old splashed out £450 on a three-night Rome trip — knowing England had won all 32 of their previous matches against Italy.
Instead, he witnessed first-hand their 23-18 Six Nations humiliation.
The retired social housing manager described the loss as “unbelievable.”
Mark, who lives with his wife in Peckham, South East London, grew up in Devon and also supports Torquay United.
And their run of seven games without a win has seen them lose to the two bottom teams in National League South.
Mark said: “It’s just got worse and worse.
“Spurs have not performed this badly since 1935.
“In this dreadful run I’ve endured five home games without a win, plus saw them go out of the FA Cup at home to Villa.
“The only Spurs game I missed was last Thursday as I was in Rome – but I watched us lose 3-1 to Crystal Palace in a bar on TV, and we were awful.
“When Torquay have played Spurs in the past my loyalties were split. In 1971 I saw Torquay take the lead against them, but Spurs won 4-1.
“The way Tottenham are going they’ll be playing them regularly in the league before long.”
