The Good Morning Britain studio was evacuated mid-broadcast on Monday – meaning that This Morning had to start 20 minutes early.
The latest instalment of the ITV show, which was supposed to be on our screens between 6am and 10am, was presented by Susanna Reid and Ed Balls.
After an advert break at around 9.40am, the programme did not return and the Good Morning Britain logo appeared.
This Morning’s Cat Deeley and Ben popped up on the sofa, and Cat asked the crew: ‘They’re not coming back, or they are coming back?’
A confused Ben asked: ‘What are we doing?!’
Cat giggled away to herself as she tried to fix her jumper in front of the camera.

The This Morning logo appeared and shortly after, the show’s opening credits started to play.
Cat told viewers: ‘Hello there! Welcome to Monday’s This Morning! Shall we tell them? Shall we tell them?’
Ben said: ‘This is all very exciting. As you can tell, we are 20 minutes early Cat Deeley!’
‘We are early because there was an alarm going off in the GMB studio,’ Cat continued.
Ben said: ‘Yeah the GMB studio has been evacuated.’
Cat continued: ‘So, we’re here early! Everybody is up, Gyles is over there just reading over his notes…’
‘Clodagh is in the kitchen as well!’ Ben said. ‘We are hopefully going to find 20 minutes’ worth of content.’
Gyles chimed in: ‘I’m standing by to tell you all about my diet, my birthday!’

A Good Morning Britain spokesman said: ‘Due to an unscheduled fire alarm at the Good Morning Britain studio this morning, our team had to leave the set temporarily.
‘While they were able to re-enter the building shortly afterwards, the programme had to end earlier than planned.
‘We apologise to viewers for the disruption, with thanks to the This Morning team for appearing on air 20 minutes ahead of schedule.’
Ben later explained: ‘We’ve come on a little bit early because there has been an evacuation in the GMB studio.
‘An alarm was going off, they are all absolutely fine.
‘But they had to leave the studio.’
Cat went on to explain: ‘Hence us starting a little bit early.
‘But we do have something very special for you now, we have a clip from Stephen from The Traitors.’
Ben continued: ‘He was a fashion icon in the castle and he can definitely rock a jumpsuit.’
The show then played out a segment of the reality star celebrating 200 years of Scottish-style staple tweed.
This Morning then returned at 10.00am as planned and the hosts carried on as usual with the programme.
It comes after it was revealed at the end of last week that two huge ITV daytime shows will be pulled off air for WEEKS in a schedule shake-up that will leave fans livid.
Viewers are usually treated to Good Morning Britain, followed by Lorraine, This Morning and then Loose Women every weekday on the channel.
But from today, Monday March 9, things will look a little different.
Good Morning Britain will air from 6am, all the way through to 10am, and then This Morning will start and finish up at 12.30pm.
Step-in host Christine Lampard, who has presented Lorraine on Friday due to Lorraine Kelly’s sore throat, told viewers: ‘That’s all for today, Lorraine will be back in a few weeks’ time.
‘Have a lovely weekend, we’ll see you soon!’
At the end of Friday’s episode of Loose Women, anchor Kaye Adams let viewers know: ‘It’s your last Loose Women for a few weeks.
‘But we will be back next month!
‘Until then, take care. Have a fabulous weekend and Easter, and we’ll see you very soon!’
Lorraine and Loose Women have been removed from the schedule to make way for the ever-popular horse racing event, the Cheltenham Festival, which kicks off on March 10.
The current TV guide, which only goes up to March 16, states that Good Morning Britain will air from 6am to 10am, followed by This Morning until 12.30pm.
It is not known what the rest of that week holds – however, Kaye stated on Friday that Loose Women will be back in April.
Back in May last year, it was revealed that Lorraine and Loose Women were set to be axed for half the year and Lorraine’s runtime has been slashed by 30 minutes, as ITV Daytime bosses announced huge cuts today with job losses in excess of 220.
Host Lorraine Kelly has faced the brunt of the cuts with Good Morning Britain now taking her 9am to 10am slot for 22 weeks of the year.
For the remaining 30 weeks of the year, Lorraine will present five days a week, meaning her Friday stand-in presenters Ranvir Singh and Christine Lampard are no longer needed.
It was revealed that Lorraine’s show would be slashed in half, running for just 30 minutes from 9.30am to 10am.
ITV sources told MailOnline at the time that they have decided to cut resources on their daytime schedule so that the network can invest in more drama programmes.
It was also announced that ITV Studios will no longer make Good Morning Britain but instead it will be made by ITN – the organisation which makes ITV News.
