OK, let’s hit the pause button.
West Ham’s upwardly mobile fight for Premier League survival was starting to get a little too exciting, so the Hammers take a break with some FA Cup action at the London Stadium.
But in truth, this is probably a game they could do without.
Nuno Espirito Santo’s side have clicked into gear and now find themselves level on points with 17th-placed Nottingham Forest and just one behind London rivals Tottenham.
You would expect a significantly weakened starting XI for this encounter, especially after a hard-fought win over Fulham and with crucial clashes against Manchester City and Aston Villa still to come before the international break.
Nuno’s priority is Premier League survival, and that was clear when he rested players against Burton Albion in the previous round.
That could be good news for Brentford, who have never won a major cup and are chasing just their fifth FA Cup quarter-final appearance – and their first since the 1988/89 season.
Sitting comfortably in seventh, Keith Andrews will be able to throw all his resources at this one and look to extend the Bees’ solid run of four wins in their last seven games (D2, L1).
And the chances look good given their recent history.
Brentford have won seven of their ten matches against West Ham in all competitions since becoming a Premier League side in 2021, and have kept a clean sheet in both of their FA Cup ties this season.
