A seven-year-old boy has died after being hit by a car in the early hours on a main road in Staffordshire, police have said.
Officers rushed to the collision between a car and a child on the A38 at the junction with the A5206 near Lichfield, at around 5am on Saturday.
The A38 was closed in both directions between the A5148 and A5 junctions for more than 10 hours while officers investigated.
The boy’s family have been informed and is being supported by specially trained officers.
A spokesman for Staffordshire Police said: ‘Sadly, the child, a boy aged 7, died at the scene.
‘His family have been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers.’

Staffordshire Police have since launched an appeal for witnesses to the crash as part of their investigation.
