‘LED THE WAY’
By Michael Hamilton, Chief Reporter
YESTERDAY I broke the news of Ian Huntley’s death — revealing it online on The Sun’s website at 9.53am, just an hour after it happened.
And on Thursday last week, we were the first news group to report the attack on him, posting it two hours after it happened.
I got a tip-off from a source at HMP Frankland just before 10am on February 26.
I checked it with an official, who confirmed it and told me that he himself had only just found out.
We broke the story on thesun.co.uk at 11.11am.
I revealed how Huntley, 52, was “touch and go” after being battered with an iron bar by another lag.
Since then we have led the way on the story and on Friday I revealed how Huntley was blinded in the assault and was unlikely to survive.
Then, yesterday, I got a call within half an hour of Huntley’s death.
