THE son of a golf cult hero has made an incredible start to life on the PGA tour after finally making his debut.
John Daly II – who signed a Hooter’s contract in 2022 alongside his namesake dad – opened up his Puerto Rico Open bid with a two-under round to score a 70.
Chandler Blanchet currently leads the pack going into the second round.
But it was a huge moment for Daly, who opened up on his first 18 holes.
He said: “It was good.
“Feel like I left a few out there, but I made it up with just a couple of good saves and nice chip-in on 16.”
John Daly Senior – who is a former PGA and Open champion, made his bow nearly 40 years ago.
Daly II will be back out on the course for the second round as he bids to make up even more ground on the top end of the board.
He made the headlines – with his old man – when he signed a NIL (name, image and likeness) contract with Hooters on a multi-year contract.
Speaking at the time, Daly II said: “Hooters is the ideal place for me to go and unwind after a long day on the course or in the classroom, so I am honoured to be chosen as an ambassador for the iconic brand.”

His dad added: “As a longtime fan of the brand off the course, I am excited this relationship with Hooters extends to the greens.

“I am eager to represent the brand and have a great time while doing so.”
Blanchet is joined at the top of the leaderboard by Ricky Castillo in second place while it is a three-way tie in third currently.
Gordon Sargent, Jesper Svensson and Jimmy Stranger all sit a few shots off the lead.
