He leaves the pile-up, trousers in hand, and darts into woodland nearby.

Richards is wearing nothing but a black t-shirt and socks as he tries to flee.

Even a confused looking dog watches as the 48-year-old runs for cover.

The footage circulated on social media after claims Richards had caused the smash while being “chased by his lover’s husband”.

It was rumoured he ran the red light to get away, after he was caught in bed by the other man.

Richards appeared at magistrates court in Wigan, Lancashire, where his lawyer admitted he “had quite a lot going on in his personal life”.

The court heard how Richards ditched his Volvo V40 car but later returned to the scene.

He admitted driving through a red light, and a roadside saliva test confirmed drugs were in his system.

Officers took Richards to a police station but he refused to provide a blood sample because of a “fear of needles”.

Richards’ lawyer Andrea Woods said: “He said there was quite a lot going on in his personal life which caused him to overthink.

“He wasn’t in an area that he was familiar with.

“And it was those factors, he said, were the reasons for him missing the red light.”

Meanwhile, Zulekha Bhuta, prosecuting, told the court: “The defendant was seen driving through a red light and collided with another vehicle.

“That has caused another vehicle to then collide into those two vehicles as well, so it was a three-vehicle collision.”

Richards pleaded guilty to driving without due care and attention and failing to provide a specimen for analysis.

He was handed a two year driving ban, an 18-month community service order and fined £199.

After footage of Richards did the rounds, one local commented: “The video appeared on social media within minutes of it happening, it was almost like watching a live feed of what was going on.

“Different videos from different angles kept appearing – we have no idea who the man is, we couldn’t see his face, only his backside! Fortunately, there were no close-ups.”

Another added: “At first we were concerned he was a flasher, then there were loads of rumours he’d been up to no good with another man’s wife and the husband had come home, so he’d had to leg it quickly.

“It’s not something you see every day – only in Bolton!”

A spokesperson from Greater Manchester Police said: “Mark Richards, 48, of Skelmersdale, Lancashire, has been charged with failure to provide a specimen.

“He has been bailed and is due to appear at Wigan and Leigh Magistrates’ Court on 4 March 2026.”
