THE UK’s favourite bakery is set to roll out vending machines across the UK “very shortly.”
Greggs is reportedly introducing the new retail format following the success of its first three “Bitesize shops.”
The bakery chain enjoyed great success with the smaller stores, which were set up in train stations, airports and retail parks.
Now bosses are looking to experiment with further new shop formats – hoping to deliver sausage rolls to customers in new and innovative ways.
Dubbed “unattended retail solutions” the new vending machines are set to be rolled out very shortly, though no exact date has been given.
Richard Hutton, chief financial officer for Greggs, said this would include “both automated and manual vending solutions.”
It has not been disclosed where the new Greggs vending machines will be put so far, with the idea still in its early stages.
CFO Richard did say that the move would help the bakery access small locations that are unable to support a full store.
The CFO said he hoped the move would present a “significant growth opportunity in underrepresented catchments.”
He added that the chain was working on other innovations that he hoped would drive Greggs‘ income in the years ahead.
The bakery boss said the brand was working on these new developments “in the background.”
He did not disclose further detail about the projects, saying Greggs was not “quite ready to talk about that.”
The CFO did tease that there was “more to come” from the much-loved bakery, however.
Greggs chief executive, Roisin Currie, added that there were several trials in the pipeline currently.
She said they were set to “provide convenience for customers” and “unlock additional customer missions.”
