THE teen son of disgraced mayor Misty Roberts was heard screaming at his mum after she allegedly raped his best friend at a pool party.
Roberts, 43, is currently facing trial after being charged with third-degree rape of a boy, 16, at a boozy summer gathering in DeRidder, Louisiana, in 2024.
The court heard from Jill Weaver, the best friend and former sister-in-law of Roberts, who recounted the heated exchange between the ex-DeRidder mayor and her son after the alleged rape had occurred.
“He was saying [Roberts] effed his best friend,” Weaver told jurors, as reported by the New York Times.
Weaver also told the court that Roberts sent panicked texts ordering other teens who were at the party to “lie ’til you die” if asked about the alleged rape.
She explained in her testimony that her son – who is also Roberts’ nephew – had called her back to the party on July 20 because of an argument that had broken out.
She had originally left around 11pm, but her son had phoned her to return around 2am when Roberts had accused him of filming the alleged assault.
“Oh great, you called your mom,” Weaver recounted Roberts stating at the time.
Weaver said Roberts then turned her “ranting and raving” towards her own child.
After hearing Roberts’ son shout at his mum for “effing” his best mate, Weaver said the ex-mayor threatened to harm herself.
Weaver’s son then went into the house to unload a firearm and put it inside a car so Roberts couldn’t find it.
She testified that Roberts was the most drunk she had ever seen her.
Later that night, Roberts told her son and her nephew not to talk about what had happened and instructed them to lie, Weaver testified.
Roberts’ ex-husband Duncan Clanton also testified that the following morning she had confessed she had raped the drunk teen, according to American Press.
He said Roberts then requested he reach out to the victim’s parents to “see how they were feeling about everything.”
It comes after the court heard how Roberts’ son initially told investigators that he saw his mum having sex with his pal through his window.
But in court he said he couldn’t be sure what he saw that night in 2024, according to KPLC.
A text message also presented in court showed Roberts’ son messaging his mum horrified about what was happening.
“He is seventeen”, the son texted Roberts.
The victim was later confirmed to be 16 years old.
Roberts’ daughter also told the court she saw her mum and the boy “on top of each other” that night.
The former mayor’s nephew also took the stand, saying he had tried to sneak a peek at what was going on in the room.
While all three witnesses said the teen boy was shirtless, none of them said they saw the “private parts” of Roberts or the victim.
An image of a bikini-clad Roberts stood next to the victim was shown as part of a selection of snaps from the night of the party.
The image, which prosecutors described as “lewd”, showed the boy looking up at Roberts and smiling.
After the alleged incident, the victim’s mother texted Roberts to ensure she was not pregnant.
Roberts replied to say she was on birth control, the message showed.
The court was shown a screenshot of the message that Roberts sent to a group chat with her friends.
In the group chat, Roberts’ friends reply to the screenshot urging her to take Plan B.
A DoorDash driver testified that he delivered an emergency contraceptive to Roberts’ house.
Ahead of the party, Roberts had asked her son what kind of alcohol he and his friends would like, other texts show.
Roberts was charged with rape and contributing to the delinquency of a minor five days after she abruptly resigned from office on July 27, 2024.
An investigation was launched after the Beauregard Parish Sheriff’s Office received a complaint against the former mayor.
This was handed over to the state police.
Roberts has pleaded not guilty.
Roberts was in the middle of her second term as mayor after winning re-election with sixty percent of the vote in 2022.
DeRidder, a city of just under 10,000 people, is situated on the west side of the state approximately 20 miles from the Texas-Louisiana border in America.
