The single-engine plane was flying from a Long Island airport when it lost power and plunged into the river, Orange County Executive Steve Neuhaus told News 12.

Emergency responders scrambled to the scene but were initially unable to locate the plane.

Images of the terrifying scene show the aircraft partially submerged in the water amongst blocs of ice.

The pilot and passenger miraculously survived the crash.

They managed to evacuate the plane and swim to shore through the freezing waters.

Both were taken to hospital where they are expected to make a full recovery.

Coast guards are trying to recover the plane, which is slowly sinking.

New York Gov. Kathy Hochul described the rescue of the two people a “miracle”.

In a post on X she wrote: “Thank God both the pilot and passenger of a single-engine plane that performed an ice landing near Newburgh have been located with only minor injuries.”

It comes after a horror helicopter crash in the Hudson that killed six people last year.

The tourist helicopter broke apart mid-air and crashed into icy cold water.

Terrifying videos show the chopper completely upside down and bubbling underneath the 50-degree water’s surface after the wreck.

The president of Siemens’ Spanish branch Agustín Escobar, his family and the pilot were later identified as the victims of the crash.

An investigation revealed the helicopter was on its eighth flight of the day.

The doomed vessel was also running without a flight recorder, according to officials.

The family had booked the helicopter tour to celebrate the birthday of one of the three kids who died.
