WHY not use World Book Day on Thursday as a chance to make a little cash?
While thinking up ideas for your children’s costumes, clear out some unwanted books cluttering your home — and sell them on.
Get to know these apps and websites to find the best prices you can get . . .
MUSIC MAGPIE: Download the free app from musicmagpie. co.uk/sell-books to scan the barcodes of your books and get an instant price of what the site will pay for them.
Get a label, pack them up and send them off for free.
The cash will hit your account the same day the books arrive at its warehouse.

WORLD OF BOOKS: Formerly Ziffit, the World Of Books app works in a similar way to Music Magpie.
Scan your books, get a quote and World Of Books will collect them for free. Sign up for the free newsletter at sell.worldof books.com and earn ten per cent extra on your first trade.
ZAPPER: Zapper lets you trade in your bestsellers via its app — and they often get snapped up quickly.
Zapper also offers free delivery and quick payments. Download the app at zapper.co.uk.
WE BUY BOOKS: Calling all students graduating this year, or parents of students who still have their textbooks lying around at home.
We Buy Books has a dedicated textbook section at webuybooks.co.uk/ sell-textbooks.
Check the price, then enter the ISBN barcode number or scan with its app. Get an offer and choose free postage or home collection.
It pays via bank transfer or PayPal, often within a day of receiving your haul.
VINTED: Good news — the Vinted app now lets you sell books.
Snap a photo of your books, set your price and pay zero seller fees. You also benefit from the Vinted “buyer covers postage” policy.
Recent bestsellers tend to sell quickest on the app, but you could also offer bundle prices to earn a bit more.
It takes a bit more effort than the scanning apps, but you might bag a better price for those popular titles.
- All prices on page correct at time of going to press. Deals and offers subject to availability.
