Hilaria Baldwin said that a scary experience in a New York City park recently stressed to her a larger life lesson: that people need to get involved and help others in need – even if it takes them out of their comfort zone.
The yoga expert, 42, was seen in a clip on Instagram reclining while recalling the details of the harrowing exchange.
‘I was walking through a park and a crazy person was chasing and screaming at me and calling me awful things,’ Hilaria, who shares seven children with husband Alec Baldwin, told her 1 million followers. ‘And that’s not the crazy part!’
Hilaria, who has been married to the Oscar-nominated actor since 2012, said that ‘the crazy part is that nobody’ came to her aid – even after she cried for help.
Said Hilaria: ‘I asked for help and the answers were either silence, walking away, or they [said], “I don’t want to get involved,” I heard a few times or “I don’t know what to do.”‘
Hilaria said that the incident in general got her ‘thinking about all the things that are happening with the world right now.‘
Hilaria Baldwin, 42, said that a scary experience in a New York City park recently stressed to her a larger life lesson: that people need to get involved and help others in need – even it it takes them out of their comfort zone
She said that the standoffish, tentative replies she received from bystanders in her incident in the Big Apple ‘cannot be our answers when people are asking us for help.’
Said Hilaria: ‘We have to get involved, even when we don’t know what we’re doing.’
Hilaria said she was asking bystanders questions such as ‘Will you walk with me?’ Will you stay with me?’ Will you help me?’ but did not receive any assistance.
Hilaria said she was ‘fine’ but ‘rattled’ following the incident, noting that it’s rare she calls out for help to strangers in any situation.
‘I lived here over 20 years,’ Hilaria said, ‘and it’s hard for me to ask for help because I’m a stubborn Capricorn, super-independent think I’m tougher than I am.’
Hilaria said she wasn’t initially going to share the story, but she felt it necessary to speak out and use her platform to spread an important message.
‘Imagine if it was one of my kids, or anybody, I would help them,’ Hilaria said. ‘We have to help people even when we don’t know what to do and even when we don’t want to get involved.
‘We do so because it’s the right thing to do – love you guys, bye.’

In an adjacent caption, Hilaria expounded more on her rationale behind retelling the tale to her followers.
‘I share this story only because I think it’s important to get involved,’ Hilaria said. ‘There is so much going on in the world and I know it’s overwhelming, but apathy can’t win.’
She added, ‘Thinking that someone else will take care of it for us all, we have to be that someone else.
‘I’m totally fine, so this doesn’t have to be about me … it was just an eye-opening experience that I want to share.’
Hilaria and Alec, 67, are parents to seven children: daughters Carmen, 12, and María Lucía, five, and Ilaria, two; and sons Rafael, 10, Leonardo, nine, Romeo, seven, and Eduardo, five.
Baldwin is also father to Ireland Baldwin, 30, with ex-wife Kim Basinger, 72.
