CORONATION Street has revealed Bernie Winter’s stalker Mal’s attacker – and it’s not who you think.
The cafe worker – who is played by actress Jane Hazlegrove in the ITV soap – has been stalked by Mal for weeks after they spent a night getting drunk together as she grieved Billy Mayhew’s death.
He has since become obsessed with her, harassing and stalking her and threatening her.
Earlier this week Bernie snapped and told Mal that if he carried on she would kill him.
And a day later he ended up in hospital having been seemingly brutally attacked.
Bernie was arrested and in today’s episode maintained her innocence as son Kit tried to prove her innocence.

But in a shock twist the real attacker has been exposed – and it’s Kit himself.
Instead of confessing to his colleagues and freeing Bernie, Kit instead confided in girlfriend Sarah Platt.
“I didn’t kick him or hit him or anything like that,” he insisted.
“I grabbed him, gave him a shove and warned him off.
“He’s had a heart attack – he would have had one anyway. I thought it’d blow over, but Bernie doesn’t have an alibi.”
Rejecting Sarah’s very sensible suggestion for him to just tell the truth, dodgy Kit added: “I’d end up losing my job.
“We’ve just got to ride it out.”
Later Bernie was released – mainly because even Weatherfield’s police need actual evidence before charging someone with a crime – and Kit was relieved.
However that was short-lived when Lisa Swain told him she’d been taken off desk duty and put in charge of finding Mal’s attacker.
“Aren’t you the least bit curious to find out who’s attacked the guy who’s been harassing your mum?” said Lisa.
She added: “I need to get back to doing what I did best – catching the bad guys…”
But will she catch Kit? Or will it be another swing and a miss for the detective?
