Police rush to secondary school mass fight between pupils as ‘two teachers are taken to hospital’

Emergency services swarmed a local secondary school today after a massive brawl broke out between students, leaving two teachers hospitalised with injuries.

South Yorkshire Police have been seen at Fir Vale Academy, on Owen Lane, since before 1.20 pm today, as a fight reportedly broke out between a number of students

Local Facebook page Sheffield Online reported the incident and shared an image of a South Yorkshire Police officer in the street. The page said the ‘situation appears to be contained’. It warned of temporary traffic disruption in the surrounding roads.

South Yorkshire Police and the Yorkshire Ambulance Service have been contacted for more information.

One Facebook commenter said: ‘Just picked my son up from this school and it was chaos.’

Parents said the incident is in regard to a ‘school fight’. They said ‘two teachers were taken to hospital’ and one teacher fainted during the incident.

There were seven police cars parked outside the school.

However, a Yorkshire Ambulance Service spokesman said they were ‘not aware’ of any incidents.

The previous Fir Vale School was opened in 1998 and formally opened in 2004 by Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.

The present converted Academy School was formed in 2012, and accepts approximately 1000 pupils from the local area.
