SKYE Newman has gone from uploading tunes on social media to headlining sold-out shows in the space of a year.
Here’s everything you need to know about one of the hottest acts in British music, who’s up for two Brit Awards in 2026.

Who is Skye Newman?
Skye Newman was born in South East London on November 9, 2003.
She grew up across various parts of the city including New Eltham, Bexleyheath and Sidcup, as well as spending time in Kent.
Her debut EP titled SE9 Part 1 is named after the postcode of her childhood home.
Skye has spoken openly about witnessing drug use and hardship from a young age, channelling those experiences into brutally honest songwriting.
In December 2025, Skye told Rolling Stone: “Whatever was going on was normal to me.
“Drugs, violence, all that – that was normal. I think I’m very desensitised to a lot of these things.”
Her musical journey began with her aunt, a jazz and blues singer, who brought a Skye along to studio sessions and live gigs while she was still a youngster.
She has also named Amy Winehouse, Adele, Bob Marley and Eminem among her biggest inspirations.
Her debut single Hairdresser dropped in March 2025, which climbed into the UK Top 20 and peaked at number 15, before her follow-up Family Matters did even better, reaching number five.
That made her the first British female solo artist in over a decade to land both her first two singles in the Top 20 – a feat not seen since Ella Henderson in 2014.
She was then crowned BBC Radio 1’s Sound of 2026, backed by a panel including Elton John, Dua Lipa and Sam Smith.
Speaking to the BBC, Skye said: “I’m still in shock that I’ve won Radio 1’s Sound of 2026!
“So many artists that I’ve listened to over the years have been honoured with the award and now me!
“To think that Sound Of started the year I was born, 2003 and now I’m a winner!
“I’m so grateful and wouldn’t be where I am without my people and the BBC supporting me on my journey. Thank you!”
Which Brit Award is she nominated for?
Skye has picked up two nominations at the 2026 Brit Awards.
She is up for Breakthrough Artist alongside Barry Can’t Swim, EsDeeKid, Jim Legxacy and Lola Young.
Her smash hit Family Matters is also nominated for Song of the Year, competing against tracks from artists including Ed Sheeran, Lewis Capaldi, Raye and Mercury Prize winner Sam Fender.
You can find out who gets the gongs live on ITV on Saturday, February 28, 2026.
