Netflix drops first look at Emma Corrin and Jack Lowden’s Pride and Prejudice reboot – and viewers already have A LOT of complaints

Netflix has dropped a first look at Emma Corrin and Jack Lowden in their new Pride and Prejudice reboot – and viewers have already flooded the comments to complain.

The series was confirmed to be in the works last year, with The Crown star Emma, 30, playing Elizabeth Bennet and Slow Horses’ Jack, 35, as Mr Darcy.

The six-part series will follow the classic love story of the duo, straight from Jane Austen’s 1813 novel of the same name, and follows on from previous adaptations, including a 1995 BBC series and the 2005 film.

The teaser sees Emma as Elizabeth, looking out onto countryside views from the roof of a house, before teasing a handwritten note, and her running through a puddle-riddled road.

Jack is then seen standing outside a stately manor in another blink-and-you’ll-miss-it shot, before appearing on the back of a horse looking solemn.

Sharing the 30-second clip to YouTube, Netflix penned: ‘Jane Austen’s beloved classic returns in a faithful adaptation by Dolly Alderton.’

However, fans were less than impressed by the trailer, and flooded the comments section under the video to hit out that the reboot was ‘pointless’.

One penned: ‘I still don’t understand the point of making this,’ as another chimed in: ‘ONE QUESTION – WHY?’

Someone else hit out: ‘1995 BBC adaptation is always the best,’ as a fourth agreed: ‘There have been 17 tv and movie productions of this novel. So many, many Lizzies and many Mr. Darcys. We all have our favourites…’

‘Yet another remake, Who asked for this? There’s the 2005 version which is the reference and can’t be topped,’ a fifth wrote.

‘Do we really need another adaptation of Pride and Prejudice though?’ another agreed, as someone else concluded: ‘Why are we remaking this movie AGAIN?’

Other viewers were more optimistic, with one writing: ‘I am a die hard fan of the 2005 Keira Knightley film. I hope Netflix is up to the challenge, and I’m willing to give this a chance…’

‘Finally another adaptation, I could watch 50 and not get tired,’ another added, while a third chimed in: ‘OK I’m actually excited because this is like one of my favorite books so I can’t wait to see how this one does!’

It comes after the Netflix Pride and Prejudice remake sparked uproar after releasing a first look at the casting for the series – with some fans now threatening to boycott it altogether.

Last July, Netflix shared a picture on social media of the Bennet women on set.

‘We know you’ve been yearning for a sneak peek. Pride & Prejudice is officially in production,’ the post read.

‘Here’s a first look featuring Emma Corrin, Freya Mavor, Olivia Colman, Hopey Parish, Rhea Norwood and Hollie Avery as the Bennet women.’

But fans immediately rushed to the comments to express their distaste at the prospect as one wrote: ‘Not to self: unsubscribe from Netflix immediately, today,’ someone wrote.

‘This casting is awful what the f**k,’ another added.

‘You cannot be serious,’ someone else said.

‘Oh help… praying this isn’t a cock up like Persuasion.

‘Actually scratch that… this is a reminder to me to unsubscribe,’ another shared.

Other members of the cast include Rufus Sewell as Mr Bennet, Freya Mavor as Jane Bennet, Jamie Demetriou as Mr Collins, Daryl McCormack as Mr Bingley, and Louis Partridge as Mr Wickham, per Variety

More actors include Rhea Norwood as Lydia Bennet, Siena Kelly as Caroline Bingley, and Fiona Shaw as Lady Catherine de Bourgh.

Hopey Parish and Hollie Avery are making their acting debuts as Mary Bennet and Kitty Bennet respectively.

The director and screenwriter of Heartstopper, Euros Lyn and Dolly Alderton, respectively, are taking on the series.

‘Once in a generation, a group of people get to retell this wonderful story, and I feel very lucky that I get to be a part of it,’ Alderton said in a statement, per the outlet.

‘Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice is the blueprint for romantic comedy – it has been a joy to delve back into its pages to find both familiar and fresh ways of bringing this beloved book to life.’

Netflix’s Pride and Prejudice will hit screens later this year
