A WOMAN has revealed how she bought her dream home in a rural town in Sicily.
Kiki, who is from the US, took to social media to share how she bought the 17-room house overlooking a medieval castle.
In the clip, she showed off the front of the house, which was made from exposed brick and had not one, but seven balconies.
She said: “Last summer, I bought this 17 room medieval house in Sicily for less than a Honda Civic.”
While a 2023 Honda Civic costs £24,000, her new ‘dream home’ costs just £23,000.
As she made her way into the house, located in the town of Mussomeli, Sicily, Kiki confessed that the renovation was far from finished.
Inside, the medieval building had been left abandoned for 30 years before Kiki bought it.
It was filled with original features such as exposed wooden beams, tiled floors and even had a library filled with books.
Unfortunately, as the house had been abandoned for so long, it meant much of the original tiles had to be removed as they couldn’t be repaired.
She also revealed that the books in the library weren’t sold with the house, but she did manage to keep a large, fake Mona Lisa painting.
Now the house had been restructured across the three floors, and there were several staircases to get through the house.
It also had seven different entrances that Kiki was unable to close off, as it is historically protected.
Kiki added: “17 rooms. €27K (£23,000). 4 months in. Not finished. Not even close. But the dream’s starting to look like something real.”
She also revealed that while the house was a bargain price, she was looking to spend 5x the cost in renovation bills.
While Kiki doesn’t currently have a citizenship for Italy, she is looking to change that so she can move into her home once the project is complete.
The clip went viral on her TikTok account @gucci.spice with over 5 million views and 462k likes.
People were quick to take to the comments to share their thoughts.
One person wrote: “17 rooms?!! It goes on and on! Well wishes for your restoration! Incredible!”
How easy is it to move abroad?
Brexit means British citizens now have to apply for visas to move to countries within the EU. While some countries residency restrictions are easier than others, here’s what you need to do at home before moving:
- Notify HMRC about your upcoming move.
- Let your local authority know and provide a forwarding address.
- Contact your mortgage and utility providers and bank before leaving.
- If you have paid enough UK national insurance contributions, you can qualify for a state pension abroad – contact the International Pension Centre.
- You can sign up to the Royal Mail’s redirection service.
- If you have outstanding student loans, contact the Student Loans Centre.
- If you have children, give due notice to childcares and schools.
Another commented: “Now we know why the Italians stay healthy. It’s all the stairs.”
“I can’t wait to see the final result,” penned a third.
Meanwhile a fourth said: “This is SO beautiful! It’s coming together so nicely.”
“You should be very proud of yourself!” claimed a fifth.
Someone else added: “Is this going to be your house or a hotel?”
“My house, it only has four bedrooms,” replied Kiki.
