RICHARD Nankivell has died age 75 as tributes flood in for the “much loved” radio star.
“Nanks” passed away at the weekend and was best known for hosting the BBC Radio Cumbria breakfast show.
Richard was a presenter at the station for more than 20 years and retired in 2015.
His career began with the British Forces Broadcasting Service and he enjoyed working all round the world in Cyprus, Gibraltar, Germany and the Falkland Islands.
Radio Cumbria’s executive editor Chris Rick paid tribute to the popular presenter, he said Richard’s “humour and brilliant understanding of radio made his shows very popular in Cumbria.”
He continued: “Richard, or Nanks as we all called him, was a much-loved colleague who was as funny and entertaining off air as he was on the radio.”
The presenter “”never shied away from asking tough questions of those in authority”.
