Claire Foy has revealed she gave up caffeine after discovering she had a parasite in her body for five years.
The British actress, 41, said she suspected something was wrong when she continued to lose weight.
She said she ‘didn’t know what was going on’ so sought medical attention, where she was told she had a parasite in her system.
Appearing on the latest episode of Table Manners with Jessie and Lennie Ware, Claire revealed she picked up the parasite whilst in Morocco.
She explained: ‘At least five years. And they travel as a pair. I got told by the doctor, gross, absolutely rank. It’s disgusting anyway.
‘So that’s why I gave up caffeine. Because I had to give it up. I basically had to go on this diet, and because I didn’t want to take, like, really hardcore antibiotics and stuff like that, I took all this little gross stuff, and part of that was giving up caffeine.’

Claire also revealed she has given up gluten and sugar, owing to an autoimmune condition which results in inflammation.
She said: ‘This is my big secret, I feel like I’m in The Traitors or something, and I’m letting everyone know that I’m related to someone!
‘So I don’t actually eat gluten or sugar [..] except when I go out for dinner. It doesn’t have an impact on me.
‘It’s just because I have an autoimmune condition, so I should avoid anything which causes more inflammation.’
Claire’s latest comments come after she admitted she ‘contemplated death’ in a morbid conversation whilst discussing her multiple medical conditions as a child.
The Stockport born native – who will celebrate her 42nd birthday in April – was raised in mid-counties Buckinghamshire with two younger siblings before leaving to study film and drama at Liverpool John Moores University.
But her childhood was blighted by a series of unforeseen issues, including a benign tumour behind one eye and juvenile arthritis that left her unable to walk without the aid of crutches when she was just 13.
And Claire concedes her spate of illnesses led to an unhealthy preoccupation with her own mortality, to the point where she believed her life would end before she reached middle age.

She told Sunday Times Culture last month: ‘Death? The fact we’re all on our way out? It’s something we just don’t want to think about while we’re alive. But I have thought about death my whole life.
‘I just presumed that it was going to happen, especially through my childhood… my thing was that I was never going to make it past 40 ? ever. I have had many medical things in my life.
‘But, yes, I’m still here and someone once told me, “You know, most people live?” They meant most people live quite a long and lovely life. Well, not necessarily lovely. But people do tend to live.
‘That’s what humans want to do. We want to survive, and that’s quite reassuring.’
Claire suffered “horrible, debilitating” pain as a consequence of juvenile arthritis, which typically affects children under the age of 16, and she believes the condition helped give her positive outlook as she grew into adulthood.
The star will appear alongside Andrew Garfield in The Magic Faraway Tree, a special effects filled fantasy adventure based on author Enid Blyton’s popular book series of the same name.
It’s set to be released on March 26 in cinemas across the UK.
