The Spaniard took charge of the Bundesliga outfit following a second successful spell in charge of Slovenian side Celje, whom he won the domestic cup with.

Pablo Remon Arteta – the cousin of Gunners boss Mikel – was Rieira’s No.2 at Celje and has come along with his countryman for the Frankfurt ride.

Throughout his managerial career, Rieira – who made 56 appearances for Liverpool – has had Pablo by his side.

Pablo has been the No.2 for Riera’s two stints with Celje and his spells with Bordeaux and NK Olimpija.

Rieira’s first game in charge of Frankfurt will take place on Friday evening.

Eintracht, who sacked Dino Toppmoller in mid-January, will travel to the Stadion An der Alten Forsterei to take on Union Berlin.

Upon his arrival at the Waldstadion, Frankfurt’s sporting director Markus Krösche said: “In Albert Riera, we have deliberately decided on a coach who plays modern, intensive and attacking football.

He has international experience, a clear playing philosophy and an equally clear approach in his day-to-day work with the team.

“In our talks, Albert impressed us with his extensive expertise and good communication.

“We have followed his progress for a long time and are confident that his abilities are a good fit for the demands of Eintracht Frankfurt in the current situation and in the future.

“And that he’s also an excellent fit for the club and our team on a personal level.”
