“Now we all know that car meet events can be a fun, social gatherings for those interested in cars.

“And that the vast majority of those attending behave in a completely safe and legal way.

“However, like in most things, there are some who decide to let the side down.

“I suspect what I am about the tell you about may well be one of those occasions.

“At 9.50pm yesterday our colleagues at the ambulance service contacted our Force Control Room to make us aware of an incident where a car had collided with a teenage pedestrian on the Roman Way industrial estate in Preston.

“It is believed that this occurred as part of a car meet event and that the vehicle involved is suspected to have been involved in antisocial driving.

“In relation to last night’s incident, the teenage boy suffered a fractured skull and the suspected driver is being investigated for serious driving offences.

“Whilst I would want not discourage anyone from attending car meets, please remember to respect the rules of the road and not put others at risk.

“I want to be clear. Anti-social driving, racing, or causing danger to other road users on public roads will not be tolerated.

“We will seek to prosecute the minority of drivers who are racing or driving anti-socially who in turn cause dismay for other road users and the wider communities who live close to these events.”
