Special Delivery! Woman gives birth DURING work shift at FedEx facility after not knowing she was expecting

A mother of one went to work at FedEx in Iowa and left with another baby after she unexpectedly gave birth to a newborn she didn’t even know she was carrying.

Amethyst Blumberg delivered a baby boy just before 9am while finishing up her shift at a FedEx facility in Grimes, according to KCCI.

The new mother of two told the outlet she had all the signs of pregnancy with her first child, but had no idea she was pregnant with her new baby, whom she named Onyx King Easterlie.

Blumberg didn’t realize she was going into labor when she had the sudden urge to use the restroom.

‘After that, I couldn’t even get off the toilet,’ Blumberg told KCCI. As the situation was escalating, she was luckily able to call for help after opening a door.

‘I get up, and I feel his head,’ added Blumberg.

A medic with the Johnston-Grimes Fire District told the outlet that they arrived at 8.39am to help deliver the baby, who was born just minutes later at 8.43am.

‘We are delivering the baby now,’ a person was heard on radio traffic, per the outlet.

Blumberg who had no symptoms during the pregnancy said while she was carrying her baby boy, she was actually ‘losing weight at work.’

Only towards the very end did she notice any signs of pregnancy: ‘The only thing I felt was when my back started hurting from back labor.

‘And when he was descending, I felt him move.’

Blumberg told KCCI that her Onyx is ‘perfect’ and her ‘FedEx baby.’

Although the delivery was unexpected, paramedics explained that they remained focused throughout the process.

‘I’ve seen a lot of things in my field, so I don’t get too surprised anymore,’ said Nick Pearson with the Johnston-Grimes Fire District.

‘I’m just very happy that she was healthy and the baby was healthy.’

Recently in September, a woman in Virginia mistook her back pain for kidney stones when, in reality, she was going into labor.

Rebecca Johnson, a special education teacher, figured it was just ‘an old mattress’ or sciatica, a condition that causes pain in the sciatic nerve, which runs from the lower back down the back of each leg.

But by the time she got to school that morning in September, she was struck by debilitating pain that reminded her of when she went into labor with her two daughters, ages nine and one.
