Manhunt launched after 95-year-old woman is ‘tied up during attempted robbery’ at home

A manhunt has been launched after a 95-year-old woman was ‘tied up’ during an attempted robbery at her home.

The man entered the pensioner’s property in the Little Hulton area of Salford, Greater Manchester, yesterday morning after he offered to clean her windows.

He then tied up her hands and demanded the elderly woman give him her cash and purse.

Thankfully, the would-be thief was disrupted when another woman who knew the victim arrived at the house before the man fled.

Greater Manchester Police rushed to the scene at 11am yesterday morning where officers supported the OAP – who was uninjured.

Now, the force have launched a manhunt for the man who is described as a white male and approximately in his late 60s – early 70s.

He had short mousy brown hair combed back, no facial hair, glasses and appeared well-kempt. He was wearing a dark raincoat jacket, jeans and dark-coloured shoes.

Members of the public are being asked to come forward with any information that may help in the search including CCTV and doorbell footage.

Detective Inspector Paul Davies, from GMP’s Salford district, said: ‘This was a vile incident in which a woman was tied up and threatened, and we are determined to locate the man responsible.

‘Thankfully, this was not a more serious situation and we commend the brave actions of the lady’s friend who confronted the man and called officers.

‘As we progress this investigation, we are appealing for anyone with any information to please come forward. It could be something big or small– it all assists in our work.’
