Teenager, 19, is charged with murder after man vanished on night out and was later found dead in a marina

A teenager has been charged with murder after the body of a 24-year-old man was pulled from a marina.

Drew Perham, 24, had not been seen since he went on a night out in Plymouth, Devon, on Friday, January 23.

Now Layton Randle, 19, of no fixed abode, has been charged with his murder.

Mr Perham was reported missing by Devon and Cornwall Police, after he was last seen at around 1am on Saturday morning.

Officers put a cordon in place at the scene and launched an investigation which involved divers probing the water at the marina.

Two 19-year-old men, one from Plymouth and one from Exmouth, have also been arrested on suspicion of murder. They remain in police custody.

In a heartbreaking tribute, Mr Perham’s family said: ‘We have unfortunately received the most horrendous news, our beautiful and wonderful Drew Perham has cruelly been taken from us.

‘We appreciate all the support and messages, but right now we need the time to navigate this together.’

Detective Superintendent James Dowler previously said: ‘This investigation has been very fast paced, and the community will be aware of the significant policing presence that has been in the Millbay area as our enquiries have progressed throughout the day. This will continue in the coming days.

‘Formal identification is yet to take place, however, all of our thoughts are with Drew’s family and friends at this unbelievably difficult time.

‘I would like to ask people to avoid speculating about this case – we are in the early stages of our investigation to establish the full circumstances and online speculation in particular, is not helpful.

‘Anyone who has information which may assist the police investigation is asked to please get in touch and report it.

‘We are particularly interested in people who may have been in the Millbay area between 1am and 4am during the early hours of Saturday January 24th.’
