He has since been interviewed under caution and bailed, police added.

Officers are now urging the public to come forward with any information they may have over the harrowing crash.

Cops are particularly interested in receiving footage of the black Volkswagen Golf GTI the driver was in.

Police are appealing for any recordings of the car from between 8:15am and 8:35am on January 25.

Detective Sergeant Nush Puvitharan, from the Met’s Roads and Transport Unit, said: “Firstly, our thoughts are with this young boy and his loved ones at this very difficult time.

“A family had their lives turned upside down during a Sunday morning walk and our team are now working around the clock to piece together what happened.”

The officer added: “It’s imperative we gather as much evidence as we can to ensure we can build the full picture of the incident, and are encouraging anyone who can help to come forward and talk to us.”
