AS parents, we know how important it is to give our kids healthy and nutritious food.
But one mum seems to have taken it too far for people’s liking as she shared the birthday ‘cake’ she made for her one-year-old.
Bridget Levine took to social media to share the cake recipe she came up with for her tot’s birthday.
The mum says: “Helping new mums with motherhood and the health of our babies.”
But her take on a healthy cake meant Bridget became a target on Instagram.
She revealed she made the cake without any sugar, flour, or any cake mix at all.
Bridget said: “Would you ever frost a cake with bone marrow?
“For my daughter’s first birthday, we skipped the refined sugar and made the most nutrient-dense cake ever, a watermelon cake with bone marrow frosting.
“Her two favourite foods are bone marrow and liver, but we skipped the liver this time.”
Instead, she got a whole watermelon and cut it into a round cake shape before cooking up some bone marrow and whipping it to create an icing texture.
Once done, she piped the bone marrow icing on top of the watermelon and showed her daughter chomping away.
Bridget added: “She went absolutely crazy for it. This was hands down the happiest I’ve ever seen her eating.”
While bone marrow is packed with healthy nutrients like collagen, proteins, and healthy fats, many took to the comments to tell Bridget to let her daughter have a real cake.
The clip went viral with over 4 million views on her Instagram account @bridgetmlevine and people were quick to slam the mum in the comments.
One person wrote: “This is what zoos give to the bears to celebrate their Birthdays.”
Another commented: “If you’re looking for attention, you got it.”
“Just give her a cake,” penned a third.
How much does a birthday cake cost?
The cost of a birthday cake can vary massively depending on where you get it from and how elaborate it is.
Basic sponge or character birthday cakes from supermarkets tend to cost between £10 and £20, while large or themed supermarket cakes often vary between £20 and £35.
Meanwhile, a small, personalised custom cake from a bakery and/or professional cake decorator can set people back £40 to £60.
Medium personalised cakes are often £70 to £100, while large, tiered cakes, can be anywhere from £100 to £300, depending on detail, flavours and toppers.
Meanwhile a fourth said: “This is vile.”
“Genuinely thought this was for a dog,” claimed a fifth.
Someone else added: “This is disgusting.”
