TRUMP has refused once more to rule out taking Greenland by force.
The US president said “no comment” when asked in an interview with NBC news if he would take the island by force.
He said: “Europe ought to focus on the war with Russia and Ukraine, because, frankly, you see what that’s gotten, them.
“That’s what Europe should focus on – not Greenland.”
It comes as note that caused President Trump’s angry outburst about not winning the Nobel Peace Prize has been revealed.
After Trump threatened to hit European countries – including the UK – with huge tariffs if he does not get his hands on Greenland, Norwegian PM Jonas Gahr Støre penned a letter to the US president.
The message, from Støre and Finnish president Alexander Stubb, got a fiery reply from Trump.
In his response, the US president complained about his Nobel Peace Prize snub and suggested he will no longer prioritise peace.
Trump wrote: “Considering your Country decided not to give me the Nobel Peace Prize for having stopped 8 Wars PLUS, I no longer feel an obligation to think purely of Peace, although it will always be predominant, but can now think about what is good and proper for the United States of America.”
The contents of the note which triggered Trump’s fiery rebuke have now been revealed.
It read: “Dear Mr president, dear Donald – on the contact across the Atlantic – on Greenland, Gaza, Ukraine – and your tariff announcement yesterday.
“You know our position on these issues. But we believe we should all work to take this down and de-escalate – so much is happening around us where we need to stand together.
“We are proposing a call with you later today – with both of us or separately – give us a hint of what you prefer! Best – Alex and Jonas.”
The note from “Alex and Jonas”, the leaders of Finland and Norway, was sent after Trump threatened a 10 per cent tariff on goods entering the US from the UK, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, France, Germany, the Netherlands and Finland.
The tariffs, announced by the president in a Truth Social post on Saturday will come into force on February 1, if a deal has not been done to secure the Danish island of Greenland for the US.
The taxes could rise to 25 per cent if Trump still does not have the island by June.
Scrambling European leaders are now priming their so-called “trade bazooka” to try and hit back at the tariff threats.
Trump also questioned Denmark’s claim to its arctic territory of Greenland and repeated claims that the island would not be safe from Russia or China until it is controlled by the US.
He said: “Denmark cannot protect that land from Russia or China, and why do they have a “right of ownership” anyway? There are no written documents, it’s only that a boat landed there hundreds of years ago, but we had boats landing there, also.
“I have done more for NATO than any other person since its founding, and now, NATO should do something for the United States.
“The World is not secure unless we have Complete and Total Control of Greenland.
It follows spiralling fears over Nato’s future if the US tries to take the arctic island by force.
Trump’s letter to Norwegian PM in full
Dear Jonas:
Considering your Country decided not to give me the Nobel Peace Prize for having stopped 8 Wars PLUS, I no longer feel an obligation to think purely of Peace, although it will always be predominant, but can now think about what is good and proper for the United States of America. Denmark cannot protect that land from Russia or China, and why do they have a “right of ownership” anyway? There are no written documents, it’s only that a boat landed there hundreds of years ago, but we had boats landing there, also. I have done more for NATO than any other person since its founding, and now, NATO should do something for the United States. The World is not secure unless we have Complete and Total Control of Greenland.
Thank you!
The US president has insisted that his first choice would be to do a deal to buy the island from Denmark, but has refused to rule out military action to bring the territory under US control.
Yet Putin could use a grab of Greenland by Trump to launch a spate of new invasions, the tyrant’s ideologist has warned.
Alexander Dugin – dubbed Putin’s “brain” due to his influence in the Kremlin – wants Russia to reconstruct the Soviet Union by invading seven countries.
Dugin called for Russia to take Armenia, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan by force.
It comes after a strange claim from the Kremlin that Greenland could even vote to join Russia, thought to be an attempt to goad the US president into invading the island.
