Man City wonderkid, 21, carried off on stretcher after horror injury as opponent comes over to apologise

Stoke City v Queens Park Rangers Sky Bet Championship, the bet365 Stadium, Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire, UK - 17 Jan 2026

MANCHESTER CITY loan striker Divin Mubama was carried off on a stretcher after a bad challenge by QPR captain Jimmy Dunne.

The game was held up for over six minutes so that the Stoke forward – who has been at the bet365 Stadium all season – could have treatment.

Eventually, a stretcher was called for and Mubama, 21, was lifted on to it as Dunne came over to apologise.

Mubama, who has scored five goals this season, was wheeled away to an ambulance waiting in the car park – as the player held his head in his hands.

Stoke fans turned on Dunne as he warmed up during the delay with a volley of chants – and he held his hands up in apology.

But ref Matthew Donohue – who earlier appeared to miss a clear handball in the QPR area – decided a yellow card was enough.

The incident left Potters manager Mark Robins with a problem as he had no recognised striker on the bench.

Play resumed in what was a bad-tempered game.

And Stoke’s Sorba Thomas appeared to let Dunne know what he thought of his challenge moments later with a heavy challenge of his own, which earned him a lecture from Donohue.

Mubama has represented England at every youth level since under-15s and has five goals in five games for the U21s.

Three of the strikers’s five goals this season came with his first senior hat-trick back in November during a 5-1 win over Bristol City.

Although Man City have a rich recent history of exports from their academy, Mubama is not a homegrown prospect.

The Cityzens bagged the forward from West Ham back in August 2024 and paid £2m in compensation for him.
