Former Premier League side Luton are planning to move into the 25,000-seater Power Court Stadium by the start of the 2028-29 season.

And Limak International, a Turkish construction giant working in partnership with Capital Sky, confirmed that piling work has begun.

It involves driving deep foundations into the ground to support large structures.

And, after that has been completed, they will start on the north side when concrete superstructures are put up in stages.

Local companies will do the majority of the work on the £100million Power Court Stadium under Limak International’s supervision.

And Martin Maloney, a Capital Sky director, confirmed that there has been constant action in the last 18 months to reach this stage.

He also revealed that more than 100 people have been working on the site – and that number will increase to 300 this year.

Maloney said: “We have a main sewer which serves 10,000 homes to move – more complex, maybe, than expected as we were again given inaccurate information, always a problem with underground work on an old site.

“We’re not bringing in people from all around the UK and beyond. We’re employing people from the Luton area.

“And it’s not just for the short-term. We’ve taken on seven apprentices and trainees this year, and we’ll be taking on more.”

Among the issues the constructors have faced is having to re-route the River Lea.

Luton announced that they were ready to build Power Court Stadium last April – when they were in danger of suffering back-to-back relegations.

They went on to suffer the drop to League One and decided to go ahead with their plans.

Former Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere is now in charge of Luton, having replaced the sacked Matt Bloomfield in October.

And the Hatters are firmly in the race for the play-offs and could be handed a shock opportunity to return to the EFL Trophy.

That is because Swindon have been charged with fielding two ineligible players against Luton earlier this week – and they may be THROWN OUT of the competition.
