MICHAEL CARRICK remains the odds-on favourite to be Manchester United’s manager for the first Premier League game of the 2026-27 season.

But there has been a significant move in the betting market, with Oliver Glasner backed into 5/2 after confirming he will leave Crystal Palace when his contract expires at the end of the campaign.

Betfair: Next Manchester United manager odds

Man Utd manager on opening day of 2026/27 season

  • Michael Carrick – 8/13
  • Oliver Glasner – 5/2
  • Gareth Southgate – 6/1
  • Thomas Tuchel – 10/1
  • Xabi Alonso – 10/1
  • Julian Nagelsmann – 12/1
  • Luis Enrique – 20/1
  • Roberto De Zerbi – 22/1
  • Mauricio Pochettino – 22/1
  • Ole Gunnar Solskjaer – 22/1
  • Andoni Iraola – 25/1

The 51-year-old Austrian will depart Selhurst Park with his legacy secure.

Glasner led the Eagles to their first major trophy by beating Manchester City in the FA Cup final, before following that up with a Community Shield triumph over Liverpool on penalties in August.

“A decision has already been taken, months ago,” Glasner said. “I had a meeting with Steve Parish in October during the international break. We had a very long talk and I told him I will not sign a new contract.”

Available on a free transfer this summer, Glasner is expected to attract serious interest, with Manchester United, Tottenham, Liverpool and Manchester City all rumoured admirers.

United legend Carrick remains the 8/13 favourite to land the job on a permanent basis – provided he can impress during the remainder of the season.

It would not be entirely unfamiliar territory for Carrick, who oversaw three matches following Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s sacking in 2021.

Gareth Southgate is also prominent in the betting at 6/1. The former England boss spent eight years in charge of the Three Lions, managing 102 games and guiding them to two European Championship finals and a World Cup semi-final.

United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe is known to be an admirer, though the appointment could be viewed as a gamble given the 55-year-old has not managed at club level since leaving Middlesbrough 16 years ago.

Further down the market are current England boss Thomas Tuchel and recently sacked Real Madrid manager Xabi Alonso at 10/1, with Julian Nagelsmann priced at 12/1.
